there is always a first

bored at work and reading my wicked funny blog instead? no prob, click here and your boss will never know.

well i didnt get a chance to get online over the weeken for anything other than work. yeah it sucked.
anyways, on saturday we had a "corporate meeting" whcih took place in the Cedar Knoll Country Club. the agenda was:
+how to swing a golf club
+how to swing a golf club and actually hit a ball
+how to drive a chunk of grass further than the ball
+how to hook a shot towards your own golf cart and almost hit other players.

In all it was a productive meeting. at the end we went for some food and ended up in a place called Papa Nicks. a greek restaurant.
i felt like i was in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" movie, the same characters were there(yup the ugly daughter, the cousin with her family, and other cousins helping out.) Not a bad Gyro though.

how did i do? horribly. so bad i rather not post my score until i get something bearingly embarrasing.

a sean paul special

alrigth the last entry was the first one ever so thats why it looks like crap.

almost everyone i meet asks me the same question, how in the world you ended up here in freezing Vermont.
and so the sorty goes this way:

I had just turned 18 (Legal Drinking age in Peru) and i was living it up. no job, no school, i was living large... except that i had no money, and of course no job. and there was no way my family could afford to put me through school
so what we do, they packed me up and tell me, gotta go to stay with your relatives and find a way to earn an education.
fair enough i said

April 4th 1999 i landed in Miami International Airport and got to burlington, vermont on the 5th
went to CCV for a couple of months, trying to settle into the new culture and language. i didnt do too bad and actually i liked it.

i have always played soccer and figured there had to be a way to get an scholarship somewhere. Champlain College offered me to play for them. no doubt i said and trasnfered.

Spent 4 years there and now i have a degree, great memories and some good friends.

so this is a very short version of the story but what the hell, whoever is going to read this already knows me and prob knows some of the story.

Alright then, so much for introductions. check this place out, i'll be posting quite often with all sorts of stuff.

Opening day

Thats how it feels, like opening day.

first i will introduce myself. being the first time i do this i may leave stuff out, if i do and you really want to know then dont be afraid to contact me.
Name: Victor Orlando Castro. yep i go by either one of my names (including my last name). and no im not related to Fidel although its a big joke my friends play on new aquaintances
DOB: 11/22/1980. in San Jose, Costa Rica. However i am a Peruvian since both my parents are from there and we moved there when i was 2
Current Location: Vermont, USA
Education: I attended Champlain College, where i played varsity ball for 2 years and got a degree in Software Engineering.
Hobbies:
Football (Soccer). I have played that game since i can remember. I proud myself of having a vast knowledge about the game. I breath, eat, drink, dream, love soccer. I love discussing it, learning it and of course playing it. indoor, outdoor, online, 1 v 1, any way possible. so if you want to chat it up let me know. I play the game at different levels. During the winter i try to stay in shape playing indoor leagues like Nordic Spirit and Capital Soccer, along with Futsal leagues. I also help coach with Capital Soccer Club, right now i am the assistant for the U-16 Boys and last year i went to the Region 1 Tournament with the U-18 Boys Team. During the fall and summer i also play a couple of different leagues, a very laid back, folksy, disorganized mens league; and an Amateur League (the only one in the state) which is regsitered with the USASA.
If you want to know more or play a game then hit me up, im always up for a game. Believe it or not, we even have a PDL team in the area, the Vermont Voltage and they dont do too bad.
Poker. This is kind of a new hobbie. I have played poker before, usually 5 card stud but never really grasped the game. Then i was introduced to hold'em, both fixed limit and no limit. I admit it has become sort of an addiction, i play it as often as i can, usually once a week in live games. if work is not too tight i get around to play some games online as well. Im not a shark but i am a tight aggressive player, and i cannot stand loose games. I have bought a couple of books trying to gain a bit of an edge on other players, plus i will be going to vegas at the end of the summer and i must prepare before i can sit down with the real pros. This topic leads me to perhaps my favorite movie, not because of the quality but because of the story it tells. Rounders. I know many will think im just on the bandwagon but truth be told i saw this movie long long before it was mainstream and before the world series was on ESPN.
You will find me quoting this movie at least 5 times a day, funny enough many quotes apply to almost any topic. There is something about that movie that everytime i see it i find something new, and i still believe that there are many things that are not totally clear in it and i would love to discuss these with anyone who likes this movie as much.
Software. Apart from being my job it is also my hobbie, i am lucky enough to enjoy what i do, at least for now. I like discussing and learning new stuff about software engineering, and would like to exchange code and ask/provide questions/answers for any kind of software in any language. im not saying i know them all, but if i dont know it i would like to learn it, and if i know it then maybe i could help.

So these are my hobbies in a nutshell. I do many other things but my life evolves mainly around these three. If you want to know more about me (dont know why you would) then just ask.
